Questions

Frequently asked

GTA-specific answers to what people actually search for.

How Taskly works, in full

How much does window replacement cost in Toronto?

This page carries no band on purpose. Our pricing engine has rows for cleaning, moving, junk removal, lawn care, plumbing and electrical work — windows and doors are not among them, and a typed range would be a number derived from nothing. Post the job and compare the fixed-price offers you get back.

Retrofit or full-frame — which do I need?

If you are replacing because of draughts, condensation between the panes or looks, a retrofit into the sound existing frame is usually enough and costs less. If there is any sign of water — a soft sill, staining below the window, rot in the frame — full-frame is the only version that addresses the cause, because a retrofit never touches the flashing.

Can windows be replaced in winter?

Yes, and it is slower and more expensive. Sealants have minimum application temperatures and the opening is briefly open to the weather, so installers work one unit at a time. If a window has actually failed, replace it; if it can wait for spring, the same job is easier to schedule and generally better done.

My garage door is heavy to lift — is that the opener?

Almost certainly not. A correctly balanced door should be liftable by hand with moderate effort and should stay put halfway. Heaviness or uneven movement points at the springs, which store enough energy to cause serious injury and are not a homeowner repair. Post it as a spring or balance problem so the right person takes it.

Do I need a permit to replace a window?

Replacing like-for-like in an existing opening generally does not require one. Enlarging an opening, adding a new one, or anything structural usually does, and a condo will have its own approval process regardless. If your scope changes the opening, ask who is pulling the permit before work starts.
