Post this taskWhat laundry actually costs here, and why
Two different things get searched for with the same word, so split them at the top. One is laundry as a service: washing, drying, folding, ironing, or getting things to and from a dry cleaner. The other is laundry as an appliance problem — a washer that will not drain, a dryer that runs cold — which is appliance repair, a different trade with different tools. Both can be posted here. Saying which one you have in the first sentence is what gets you sensible offers rather than a mixed bag.
On the appliance side, the honest version is this. A great deal of what looks like a broken machine is a blocked filter, a frozen drain hose, a lint-packed vent duct or a machine out of level — all ordinary work. A lint-choked dryer vent is worth naming separately, because it is both the usual reason a dryer takes three cycles to do one load and a genuine fire risk. Where the line falls: sealed refrigeration parts and anything touching a gas connection are not general work. Reconnecting a gas dryer in Ontario is TSSA-certified work, full stop.
On the service side, wash and fold is bought by the load or by weight with a collection and a return, and the details that matter are the ones people forget to state: what must not go in the dryer, whether whites and colours are kept separate, whether you want your own detergent used, and when you need it back. Ironing is priced by the piece far more often than by the hour, so count the shirts. A dry-clean run is a courier job with a specialist behind it — the solvent work happens at a plant, not in your kitchen.
The GTA adds its own constraints, and the biggest is the building. In a great many condos the laundry is a shared room on a card or app system, machines cannot be left unattended, and there is an unwritten weekend queue. In-suite stacked units are small, which means more loads and longer drying, and they usually vent into a shared riser the corporation maintains rather than out through a wall you can reach. Say in the post if you live in a building: it changes whether the answer is a pickup service or somebody standing in the laundry room with a card.
Winter is the other local variable, and it shows up in the dry cleaning rather than the washing. Road salt spray sits in the hem of a wool coat and on the bottom of anything worn on the subway between November and April, and it does not come out with a brush. That season is when same-day and specialist cleaning genuinely matters — and it is why booking a delicate item well ahead of the date is better advice here than anywhere warmer.

Local knowledge
Priced for how the GTA actually lives
Four things that change a laundry quote here, and nowhere else.
Two different things
A broken washer is appliance repair, not a laundry service
People search both with the same word. Wash, fold and ironing is one purchase; a machine that will not drain is another, with different tools behind it. Say which one you have in your first sentence and the offers stop being a mixed bag.
TSSA line
A gas dryer connection is certified work in Ontario
Disconnecting or reconnecting the gas line to a dryer requires a TSSA-certified technician here, and that is not negotiable. Vents, ducting, hoses, filters and levelling are ordinary work — which covers most of what actually stops a dryer working.
Shared laundry rooms
In a GTA condo, the constraint is the building rather than the machine
Card or app systems, machines that cannot be left unattended, and a weekend queue nobody wrote down. It is often why a collection service beats the room downstairs — and it is worth saying in the post, because it changes what a Tasker is quoting for.
Nov to Apr
Road salt is a dry-cleaning problem, not a laundry one
Salt spray settles in the hem of a wool coat and the bottom of suit trousers all winter here, and it does not brush out. That season is exactly when specialist and same-day cleaning is worth its price, and when a delicate item needs booking well ahead of the day it is wanted.
What to say in the post
- Whether this is a laundry service or a machine that has stopped working
- Roughly how many loads, or how many pieces to be ironed
- Anything that must not be tumble dried, and any detergent you require
- Whether you are in a building with a shared laundry room
- The hour you need it back, not just the day
If it is a gas dryer being moved or reconnected, that part needs a TSSA-certified technician.

Questions
Frequently asked
GTA-specific answers to what people actually search for.
Is "laundry repair" the same as a laundry service?
No, and they get searched with the same word. A laundry service washes, dries, folds or irons your clothes. Laundry repair means the washer or dryer itself has stopped working, which is appliance repair. Both can be posted here — just say which one you have.
Can a Tasker fix my washer or dryer?
Often, for the common faults: a blocked filter, a kinked or frozen drain hose, a lint-packed vent, a machine out of level. What is off limits is sealed refrigeration work and anything touching a gas connection — reconnecting a gas dryer in Ontario needs a TSSA-certified technician.
How is wash and fold priced?
Usually by the load or by weight, with collection and return quoted alongside it. What changes the number is separations, anything that must be air dried, and how fast you need it back. Saying all three in the post is what turns a range into a fixed offer.
Why does my dryer take three cycles to dry one load?
Most often a lint-blocked vent or a long, crushed duct run rather than a failing machine. It is worth clearing for the running cost alone, and there is a safety argument too. In a condo the vent may run into a shared riser the corporation maintains, so ask before assuming it is yours.
Can someone take my dry cleaning for me?
Yes — it is a collection and return, with the actual cleaning done at a plant by a cleaner. Say what the items are, whether anything is delicate or beaded, and the hour you need them back. Winter coats carrying road salt are worth flagging, as that is a specific treatment.
