Kinds of furnace and hvac work
The furnace and hvac work jobs people book most. Open one to see what it covers and what it costs.
Only on Taskly
One post, the whole situation handled
Several jobs bought as one outcome — one Tasker, one price to agree, no coordinating three trades yourself.

Ready before the first freeze
Filters changed, vents cleared, the thermostat set up and the outside intake clear — the autumn visit that prevents the January one.
Post this task
The room that is always cold
Returns checked, reachable runs sealed and the basement ducts wrapped, before anyone talks about a bigger furnace.
Post this task
New place, unknown system
Filters replaced, the thermostat set up properly and the whole system documented so you know what you have.
Post this task
After the renovation dust
Vents and returns cleaned out once the trades have gone, so the drywall dust stops circulating through the house.

The list on the fridge
The shelf that never went up, the door that sticks, the light that flickers — one visit instead of three.

A garage you can park in
Sort, shelve and haul away what is left, so the car actually fits before the snow arrives.
Post this task
A week of dinners, cooked
A cook fills the fridge for the week — your list, your dietary needs, containers labelled.
Post this task
Before the first snow
Gutters cleared, hoses drained and the walk ready, so December is not the first time anyone looks.

Local knowledge
Priced for how the GTA actually lives
Four things that change a furnace and hvac work quote here, and nowhere else.
TSSA licensing
Gas work is licensed in Ontario, and that is a hard line
Anything touching the furnace, the gas line or the burner needs a TSSA-certified technician. It is not a preference or a formality — an uncertified person is not permitted to open the appliance, and a quote that ignores this is not a cheaper quote, it is a different and illegal job.
The first cold snap
Demand arrives in one fortnight, every year
The first hard freeze produces more no-heat calls across the GTA than the rest of the season combined. Lead times and prices peak in that window, which is exactly why an autumn service visit is the cheapest heating work anyone does here.
Snow and intakes
A blocked exterior vent shuts a furnace down
High-efficiency furnaces vent through a side wall, and a GTA snowbank or an ice build-up over the intake will trip the safety and stop the heat. Clearing it is a Tasker job, and it prevents a genuine share of the emergency calls this city makes every winter.
Old housing stock
Ductwork built for a house that has been changed
Much of Toronto’s stock has had basements finished, attics converted and walls moved around ductwork that was sized for the original floor plan. That is why one room is always cold, and why balancing and sealing runs is often worth more than a bigger furnace.
What a Tasker can do here
- Filter changes on the manufacturer’s schedule
- Cleaning vents, grilles and cold-air returns
- Fitting and configuring a smart thermostat
- Sealing and insulating accessible duct runs
- Clearing snow and ice from exterior intakes and exhausts
Anything inside a gas appliance needs a TSSA-certified technician, and refrigerant work needs its own certification.
Try nowWhat moves the price
- The season — the first cold snap is the peak in both price and wait
- Number of vents and cold-air returns, which is what duct work is counted in
- Access: a finished basement ceiling makes duct work a different job
- Whether the thermostat run already exists or has to be pulled
- Emergency or out-of-hours call-out
- Filter size and grade, which is a real consumable cost
Worth asking before you accept an offer
- Is any part of this gas work, and are you TSSA-certified for it?
- How many vents and returns is this quote for — in writing?
- Does the price include the filters, or are they extra?
- How old is the unit, and is this repair worth it against a replacement?
- Will you clear the outside intake as part of the visit?
- Is there an after-hours or emergency rate, and when does it start?
Three steps
How Taskly works
- 1
Post your task
Say what needs doing and when. Free, two minutes, no account until you accept.
- 2
Compare offers
Verified Taskers send a price and an approach. You see the whole cost up front.
- 3
Choose, then pay
Pick who fits. The money is held and released only when you confirm it’s done.
No lead fees on either side — Taskers don’t pay to make an offer, so you’re not paying for someone’s cost of finding you.
Why Taskly
What you can actually count on
Reviewed before they offer
ID check, phone verification, a real interview and a real photo.
Priced with a method
Ranges come from a versioned, dated rate table — never an invented average.
Built for the GTA
Lift access, month-end crunch and salt season are in the pricing, not surprises.
Pay only when done
The money is held by Taskly and released after you confirm the work.
Questions
Frequently asked
GTA-specific answers to what people actually search for.
Can a Tasker repair my furnace?
Not the gas side of it. Ontario requires a TSSA-certified technician for work on the appliance, the burner or the gas line, and no honest offer will say otherwise. Filters, vents, returns, thermostats, duct insulation and clearing the exterior intake are all genuinely Tasker work.
When should I book the autumn service?
September or early October, before the first hard cold. The fortnight when everyone notices the heat is the fortnight lead times and prices peak across the GTA.
Is duct cleaning worth it?
On a house that has been renovated, shows visible dust from the vents, or has never had it done — yes. Otherwise it is optional. What matters is getting the vent and return COUNT agreed in writing first, because per-vent add-ons at the door are the standard complaint in this category.
Why does my furnace keep shutting off in a storm?
Very often the side-wall intake or exhaust is blocked by snow or ice, and the safety trips. It is a five-minute job to clear and a common cause of a no-heat call that needed no technician at all.
Repair or replace?
Ask for the failed part, its cost, the unit’s age and the replacement price together. Most GTA furnaces run fifteen to twenty years, and a large repair past that is usually buying a delay rather than a fix.
