What Markham is getting done
Real open tasks from members in Markham, each with a budget attached. Post yours in a minute — local Taskers send fixed-price offers, and your money stays with Taskly until it's done.
Markham is two settlements on one map. North and east are post-1990 subdivisions, some laid out with rear lanes and the garage off the back. In the middle is Unionville, a nineteenth-century village main street that was preserved rather than replaced. The access question depends entirely on which half an address is in.
No open tasks in Markham at this moment — be the first: post yours and nearby Taskers across the GTA can send offers today.
What Markham is made of
Cornell parks at the back
Cornell was built to a New Urbanist plan: narrow front lots, porches on the street, and the garage reached from a rear lane instead of a driveway. Almost nothing else in this region is laid out that way at that scale. A vehicle that pulls up to the front door in Cornell is on the wrong side of the house, and the lane it wants is reached from the next street over.
The Highway 404 corridor is offices, not houses
Markham’s western edge along Highway 404 and Woodbine is corporate campus — technology and telecom head offices with security desks, loading docks and after-hours access rules. Work there is arranged through a facilities contact rather than a resident, and it usually happens outside business hours. That is a different working day from a residential call in Wismer or Berczy, twenty minutes east.
Unionville is a heritage conservation district
Unionville Main Street is designated: nineteenth-century frame buildings, little rear service access, and a street the City closes to traffic for events several times a year. Anything carried in goes through the front on foot from a lot two streets away. It is the one part of Markham that behaves like old Toronto and nothing like the subdivisions that surround it.
Tasks come from Unionville, Cornell, Wismer, Markville, Berczy and Thornhill.
