What does moving & hauling cost in Mississauga?

Across the GTA local moves price between $200 and $2,200, and Mississauga sits inside that band. The unusual thing here is that two completely different moves share one city name: a tower move in the City Centre and a detached move in Lorne Park have almost nothing in common except the postal city, and they do not price alike.

What changes a moving quote in Mississauga

Two cities in one, and they do not price alike

The Square One cluster is one of the densest tower groups in Canada, and a move there runs on a booked loading dock, a lift schedule and a concierge. Lorne Park, Erindale and Mineola are large detached homes with private driveways where the truck reverses to the garage and nobody books anything. Naming which half of the city you are in is more informative than naming the number of bedrooms.

An intra-city move can be twenty-five kilometres

Mississauga covers roughly 290 square kilometres, so Meadowvale to Port Credit is a longer run than many moves that cross a municipal boundary. Crews price the drive between the two addresses, not the fact that both are "in Mississauga" — which is why giving both cross-streets in the post produces a firmer number than giving the city twice.

The garage is the staging area

Detached homes north of the QEW almost all have a double garage and a driveway deep enough to hold a truck clear of the road. That turns the garage into a staging area: boxes come out in one flow instead of being shuttled from a permitted spot down the street. It is the largest single reason a suburban Mississauga move of the same volume is fewer crew-hours than the equivalent job in old Toronto.

Dock booking, not elevator booking

The newer City Centre towers are built around a shared loading dock with a height restriction and a booking sheet, and the dock rather than the lift is what limits the day. A five-tonne truck that does not clear the dock ceiling has to unload on the apron, which adds a carry nobody quoted for. Ask the property manager for the clearance and put the number in the post.

Questions

Movers & moving services in Mississauga

The answers that are specific to this city — the general ones live on the category page.

Should I say whether I am in a tower or a house?

It is the most useful thing you can say. A City Centre tower move is scheduled around a dock and a lift; a Lorne Park detached move is scheduled around a driveway. They need different crew sizes and different vehicles, so the offers you get back are sharper when the post says which one it is.

Why do movers ask for both cross-streets in Mississauga?

Because the city is close to 290 square kilometres and a move within it can be twenty-five kilometres end to end. Meadowvale to Port Credit is a longer drive than many cross-boundary moves. The two cross-streets let a crew price the actual run rather than assume a short one.

Does a loading dock have a height limit?

Usually, and it catches people out. Many City Centre buildings restrict the dock to around four metres, which rules out the larger trucks. If the truck cannot get under, the crew unloads on the apron and carries further. Ask your property manager for the clearance and include it in the post.

Is a Mississauga move cheaper than the same move in Toronto?

Often, and the reason is access rather than any city discount. A driveway the truck can reverse into and a garage to stage boxes in removes a long carry and a parking problem that old Toronto streets impose. Same volume, fewer crew-hours. Tower moves here price much closer to downtown ones.

When is the best time to book a mover in Mississauga?

Mid-month and midweek, and early in the day if a building is involved. Dock and lift windows in the City Centre towers get taken first, so book the building before you book the crew — the building sets the window and the mover works around it.
