What Oshawa is getting done
Real open tasks from members in Oshawa, each with a budget attached. Post yours in a minute — local Taskers send fixed-price offers, and your money stays with Taskly until it's done.
Oshawa is an assembly town and it shows in the housing. The blocks around downtown are pre-war worker housing built as the plant grew — small lots, narrow drives, rear lanes in places — and the north end around the university is student rental. Between them sits the ordinary post-war suburb everywhere else has.
No open tasks in Oshawa at this moment — be the first: post yours and nearby Taskers across the GTA can send offers today.
What Oshawa is made of
It has built vehicles here since 1918
Oshawa has been an assembly town since 1918, and the plant and the parts suppliers around it still put a large part of the working population on shifts rather than office hours. Work arranged around a night shift is ordinary here in a way it is not in Richmond Hill or Ajax, and the hours a household is actually home follow the plant rather than the clock.
Downtown is older than the suburb around it
The streets between the Oshawa Creek and Simcoe Street are early twentieth century: small frame and brick houses on narrow lots, some with rear lanes, most with a single-width drive and a porch onto the sidewalk. Access is the constraint there. Ten minutes north in Windfields or Taunton the same work has a three-car driveway and a garage wide enough to back into.
The north end is a campus
Ontario Tech and Durham College share a campus at the top of Simcoe Street, and the neighbourhoods around it are student rental — shared houses, several tenants to an address, and a calendar that turns over in late August and early May. Move-out and clear-out work here is seasonal in a way it is not in Richmond Hill or Vaughan.
Tasks come from Downtown Oshawa, Windfields, Lakeview, O’Neill, Samac and Eastdale.
