Which roof work is a task, and which is not

Most roof replacement is crew work for a licensed, insured contractor with staging, fall protection and a warranty behind it, and it should stay that way. What is genuinely one person’s task sits at the other end: looking at something before it becomes a claim, clearing what is stopping the water, a small repair, and being the extra pair of hands a roofer is short.

What the tasks actually look like

Eavestrough and downspout clearing, a ladder inspection after a windy week, photographing where a leak is getting in for an insurer, replacing a handful of blown shingles, sealing a flashing, and labouring on a tear-off for somebody else’s crew. Autumn is eavestrough season and the first thaw is when leaks appear. Ice damming is an attic problem, not a shingle one.

Questions

Roofing work on Taskly

The ones people in this trade actually ask before they sign up.

What training do I need to work at height?

Ontario requires working-at-heights training for workers on construction projects who use a fall-protection system, through an approved provider, and it is a real requirement rather than paperwork. Roofs are where this trade’s worst injuries come from. If you are not trained, equipped and steady on a ladder, take the ground-level end of this category.

Can I take a full roof replacement as a task?

You should not. A tear-off and re-roof is crew work — staging, disposal, a warranty, and liability cover the homeowner can actually claim against — and one Tasker quoting it is doing them no favours. Offer on the inspection, the repair or the labouring day, and tell them plainly what the rest needs.

Do I need my own ladder and insurance?

Your own ladder, and say what height you carry, because a two-storey semi and a bungalow are different equipment and posters assume nothing is on site. Taskly provides no liability cover of any kind. On roof work that gap matters more than anywhere else in this list, and homeowners increasingly ask about it.

Taskly is new in the GTA. Fewer Taskers means your offer actually gets read instead of sitting behind two hundred others — and the people here first will hold the first reviews.

Every word of that is true, and it is the argument no big platform can copy.
