Train clients without filling a gym floor first

Most trainers start out renting floor space or splitting the rate with a gym that owns the client relationship. Tasks here arrive already decided: somebody has said what they want, when, and what they will pay, so there is no overhead until the work exists, and whoever rebooks rebooks with you. Online sessions widen it past the people who live near you.

What the tasks actually look like

One-to-one sessions in a home, a condo gym or a park, small-group and outdoor training, programme design for somebody training alone, and coaching over video. Posters usually say why they are booking — a wedding, a return after an injury, a first race — and that sentence tells you whether the work suits you far better than the category name does.

Do I need a certification?

There is no provincial licence to train people in Ontario, so nothing stops you signing up. Clients ask anyway, and it is usually their first question — a CPT or equivalent from a recognised body. Name yours in the offer along with who issued it, and you have answered it before it is asked.

What about insurance?

Taskly does not provide professional liability cover, and most working trainers carry their own. It weighs more here than in categories where nothing is being lifted: you are putting somebody under load, sometimes in their own living room, and a client who has been hurt once before will ask you directly.

What if the client is coming back from an injury?

Ask what their physiotherapist or doctor has cleared them for and stay inside it. Rehabilitation is regulated work in Ontario and a trainer is not a physiotherapist. Programming around a restriction somebody qualified has already set is both the honest offer and a large share of what gets posted in this category.
