Work with no experience in Toronto — where to actually start

Plenty of task work needs no prior experience — moving, cleaning, assembly, deliveries, general labour, dog walking. What it does need is that you turn up when you said and do what was described, which is the part most people underestimate.

What genuinely needs no experience

Moving and delivery, cleaning, furniture assembly, yard and general labour, queueing and errands, dog walking. These are judged on reliability rather than credentials. If you can follow a description accurately and communicate when something is different from it, you can do them.

What looks entry-level and is not

Anything electrical or gas needs the licence Ontario requires for that trade. Massage and several beauty services are regulated. Serving alcohol at an event needs Smart Serve. Driving people for payment usually needs insurance your personal policy does not include. These are not gatekeeping — they are the law, and a task that needs one will say so.

Making a first offer with nothing behind you

You cannot point at reviews yet, so point at the task instead. Say what you understood the job to be, how long you think it will take, and what your price includes. A specific offer from someone with no history beats a one-line offer from someone with some, because it shows you read the thing.

What Taskly asks of you before you start

Government ID through Stripe Identity, a phone verification, and a short interview with our team. That is the same for everyone regardless of experience, and it is what the standard on every page refers to.

Questions

The ones people ask next

Short answers, and none of them about how much you will earn — that figure does not exist yet and will not be invented here.

Do I need references?

No. Posters see your offer and your profile. What is on your profile is up to you, and a real photo and a clear description of what you do goes further than a reference nobody can check.

What if I get something wrong on my first task?

Message the poster as soon as you know. Nearly everything is fixable while you are still there, and almost nothing is once you have left.

How do I get my first offer accepted?

Read the task properly and price it honestly. Posters compare offers side by side, and the one that clearly understood the job usually wins even when it is not the cheapest.
