About the role
We’re looking for a Software Development Intern, also called an SDE Intern or Software Engineering Intern, to join the small engineering team behind Taskly. Taskly is a marketplace where people post a task in their own words and Taskers, each reviewed and approved first, send offers at a firm price. This is a remote, six-month internship for final-year students and recent graduates. You will work in the real codebase from your first week.
You will work on the same Next.js 16, React 19 and TypeScript app that posters and Taskers use, backed by Supabase and Postgres. The team is fully remote across India, the US, Canada and the UAE, with a shared window from 8:30–10:30 am Eastern for reviews and questions. By month six, you should have shipped several small features and fixed real bugs. You should also be able to explain how a task travels from the posting screen to a finished job.
What you’ll do
- Build and polish screens in React and Next.js, such as the step where a poster compares offers or the checklist a new Tasker completes.
- Fix bugs reported by real posters and Taskers, starting from the logs and a failing test and ending with a small, reviewed pull request.
- Write Vitest tests for the code you change, so the next person can edit it without fear.
- Write SQL queries and small Supabase migrations under review, including Row Level Security policies you can explain line by line.
- Connect a feature to an existing API route, such as a new field on a task, and handle its loading, empty and error states.
- Check every screen you touch on a small phone screen and a slow connection, then fix what breaks.
- Write clear pull request descriptions and short weekly updates, so teammates in four time zones can follow your work.
What you’ll need
- At least one project you built and can walk us through, such as a web app, a college project or an open-source contribution.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript and one front-end framework, ideally React.
- Comfort with Git: branching, committing and opening a pull request.
- Basic SQL: you can write a join, filter rows, and explain what a primary key does.
- Clear written English: you can explain a bug and your fix in a few short sentences.
- Availability to commit to the internship’s hours for its full six months, including the 8:30–10:30 am Eastern window on weekdays.
Education: Final-year students and recent graduates in computer science, engineering or a related field are welcome, and so are self-taught developers. What you’ve built matters more than your degree.
Nice to have
- A deployed project on a public URL or GitHub repository we can open.
- Experience with Next.js, Tailwind CSS or Supabase.
- Familiarity with Stripe test mode or any payments API.
- Having thought about how a two-sided product works, such as Urban Company, Swiggy, Airtasker, TaskRabbit or Upwork.

About Taskly
Taskly is a marketplace for getting anything done. Someone posts a task in their own words — typed, spoken or as a photo — and people who have been reviewed and approved send offers at a firm price. They pick one, and it gets done: a TV mounted, a website built, a parent taught to use their phone. We’re live in Canada and India and opening to more countries, built by a small team that works remotely across India, the US, Canada and the UAE.
Questions about this role
Straight answers to what people ask most.
Is the Software Development Intern role remote?
Yes, fully remote. You can work from India, the United States, Canada or the United Arab Emirates, and the team overlaps for two hours each weekday: 8:30–10:30 am Eastern · afternoon in Dubai, evening in India.
Who can apply for the Software Development Intern internship?
Students and recent graduates. It runs for 6 months. What you’ve built or tried on your own counts as much as coursework.
What does the Software Development Intern role pay?
Pay isn’t listed here yet. It depends on the country you work from and your experience, and it’s discussed openly in your first conversation.
How do I apply?
Upload your resume on the application page and answer a few short questions. It takes about five minutes, with no cover letter and no account. A person replies within ten working days, yes or no.
What does the hiring process look like?
A 45-minute conversation with the person you’d work beside, then one paid day on a real problem, then a decision in writing, with the reason.
Can I apply as a final-year student?
Yes, if you can commit to the internship’s hours for its duration. Final-year students and recent graduates are both welcome to apply.
Do I need a computer science degree?
No. A degree in any field is fine if you can show a project that runs, and we look at what you built before anything else.
Something else? Ask it in your application. A person reads it and answers within ten working days.
We don’t use AI to screen, score or rank applications: a person reads every one. If you upload a resume, AI reads it only to pre-fill your form, and you check every field before you send.
Taskly is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome people of every background, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation and nationality, and we don’t ask about any of them. If anything about the process doesn’t work for you, tell us in your application and we’ll change it.
