About the role
Taskly is looking for an AI/ML Intern, also called a Machine Learning Intern, Generative AI Intern or AI Intern, to work on the language-model features inside a task marketplace. This is a remote, six-month internship for final-year students and recent graduates who have built something with Python and an LLM API.
AI is already in the product: an LLM classifier that sorts tasks into about 1,300 subcategories, content moderation, price suggestions, voice and photo task posting, and semantic search. You will work beside the engineers on Groq-hosted models. The team is remote across India, the US, Canada and the UAE and shares an 8:30–10:30 am Eastern window. Success in six months is one evaluation set the team trusts and at least one measured improvement to a live feature.
What you’ll do
- Build an evaluation set for the task classifier: realistic tasks, the correct subcategory for each, and a script that scores every model or prompt change.
- Write and test prompts for the classifier, the moderation check and the price suggestion, and record which wording measurably performs better.
- Compare LLM APIs and open models, such as Llama and GPT-OSS, on accuracy, latency and cost for one feature, then recommend one.
- Experiment with embeddings for semantic search, so a search for “fix a leaking tap” also finds tasks written as “dripping faucet”.
- Review the cases the classifier gets wrong, group them by cause, and propose fixes in the prompt, the taxonomy or the data.
- Test voice and photo task posting with noisy input, such as accents, background sound and blurry photos, and report where it breaks.
- Write a short note on every experiment: what you tried, what the numbers showed, and what you would try next.
What you’ll need
- Python you can write without a tutorial open: functions, files, API calls and reading JSON.
- A project that calls an LLM API (OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, Gemini or a local model) and that you can walk us through, such as a chatbot or a classifier.
- The basics of machine learning from coursework or self-study: train and test splits, precision and recall, and overfitting.
- A working grasp of embeddings and cosine similarity, enough to explain them to a friend.
- Git, and the habit of writing down what you tried and what happened.
- Availability to commit to the internship’s hours for its full six months, including the 8:30–10:30 am Eastern window on weekdays.
Education: Final-year students and recent graduates in computer science, data science, statistics or a related field are welcome, and so are self-taught builders. A project you can run and explain matters more than your degree.
Nice to have
- Hands-on use of LangChain, LlamaIndex, scikit-learn, PyTorch or Hugging Face Transformers.
- Vector search experience with pgvector, FAISS, Chroma or Pinecone.
- A Kaggle notebook, a reproduced paper or a hackathon project you can link.
- Interest in two-sided products, such as Airbnb, Uber, Urban Company, Airtasker or Upwork, and how ranking and trust work in them.

Where you’ll work
- Remote. Fully remote. Open to people who live and can legally work in India, the United States, Canada or the United Arab Emirates. You work from your own country, so there is no relocation and no visa to arrange.
- Shared hours. The team overlaps for two hours each weekday: 8:30–10:30 am Eastern · afternoon in Dubai, evening in India. The rest of your day is yours to arrange.
How we hire
- 1Apply in about five minutes: your resume and a few questions
- 2A 45-minute conversation with the person you’d work beside
- 3One paid day on a real problem
- 4A decision in writing, with the reason
A person replies to every application within ten working days, even if it’s a no.
About Taskly
Taskly is a marketplace for getting anything done. Someone posts a task in their own words — typed, spoken or as a photo — and people who have been reviewed and approved send offers at a firm price. They pick one, and it gets done: a TV mounted, a website built, a parent taught to use their phone. We’re live in Canada and India and opening to more countries, built by a small team that works remotely across India, the US, Canada and the UAE.
Questions about this role
Straight answers to what people ask most.
Is the AI/ML Intern role remote?
Yes, fully remote. You can work from India, the United States, Canada or the United Arab Emirates, and the team overlaps for two hours each weekday: 8:30–10:30 am Eastern · afternoon in Dubai, evening in India.
Who can apply for the AI/ML Intern internship?
Students and recent graduates. It runs for 6 months. What you’ve built or tried on your own counts as much as coursework.
What does the AI/ML Intern role pay?
Pay isn’t listed here yet. It depends on the country you work from and your experience, and it’s discussed openly in your first conversation.
How do I apply?
Upload your resume on the application page and answer a few short questions. It takes about five minutes, with no cover letter and no account. A person replies within ten working days, yes or no.
What does the hiring process look like?
A 45-minute conversation with the person you’d work beside, then one paid day on a real problem, then a decision in writing, with the reason.
Can I apply as a final-year student?
Yes, if you can commit to the internship’s hours for its duration. Final-year students and recent graduates are both welcome to apply.
Do I need to have trained a model?
No. Most of this work is evaluating and improving how language models are used, so a strong project with an LLM API counts as much as a trained model.
Something else? Ask it in your application. A person reads it and answers within ten working days.
We don’t use AI to screen, score or rank applications: a person reads every one. If you upload a resume, AI reads it only to pre-fill your form, and you check every field before you send.
Taskly is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome people of every background, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation and nationality, and we don’t ask about any of them. If anything about the process doesn’t work for you, tell us in your application and we’ll change it.
