What does gutter cleaning cost in Toronto?

Eavestrough clearing in Toronto is priced by reach and by footing, not by the length of the run. Old-city semis put the ladder in a side yard barely a metre wide, and a rear third-storey trough on a Victorian is a different job from a bungalow front run.

Gutter & eavestrough cleaning across Toronto

Toronto’s dense mix of downtown condos, semis and houses means jobs range from a 500-sq-ft studio in CityPlace to a full house in the east end. Taskers across the core cover everything from CityPlace studios to east-end houses.

Taskers serve neighbourhoods across Toronto, including Liberty Village, King West, Leslieville, The Annex, North York and Scarborough. Describe your task, compare fixed-price offers, and pay only when it’s done.

What changes an eavestrough job in Toronto

A metre of side yard is not a place for a ladder

Semis through Riverdale, Leslieville and the Beaches leave barely a metre between the wall and the neighbour, and an extension ladder set at a safe angle needs its base out from the wall by roughly a quarter of its height. On a two-storey run that base does not fit in the gap. The side trough gets reached from the front and the rear instead, and a Tasker who has looked at the lot will tell you which part of it that leaves.

The porch roof drains what the main roof sends it

Old-city houses rarely have one roof. There is the main slope, a bay-window roof below it and a front porch roof below that, each with a short trough of its own, and the upper downspout usually empties onto the porch roof rather than the ground. Clear the main line only and the porch trough still overflows onto the front steps. Count the roofs when you post, not the storeys.

Your downspouts were disconnected from the sewer on purpose

Toronto is the one city here that has required homeowners to take downspouts off the sewer, and the result is that a roof of water now lands beside the foundation instead of going underground. That makes the extension and the splash pad part of the job rather than an extra. Ask for the downspouts to be flushed and pointed well clear of the wall, then watch where the water actually goes in the next rain.

The rear addition has a flat roof and it keeps everything

A great many Victorian and Edwardian houses in the old city carry a flat-roofed rear addition or a flat kitchen extension, drained by one short trough or a single scupper at the back. A pitched roof sheds what lands on it; a flat one holds it. So the debris that matters is sitting on the roof rather than in the trough, and clearing the trough alone changes nothing about it.

Questions

Gutter & eavestrough cleaning in Toronto

The answers that are specific to this city — the general ones live on the category page.

Can a Tasker clear the eavestrough on a three-storey house?

At the front, usually, where there is level ground for the ladder. At the back of an old-city house the addition often puts the run higher again, and past a certain reach the honest answer is roof anchors and a roofer. A Tasker will say that at the quote, not on the day.

Why does water pour over my front steps when the trough is clear?

Because the porch has a trough of its own, and the main downspout very likely empties onto the porch roof. That short run carries the whole upper roof through one small outlet, so it blocks first and it overflows exactly where you walk. Ask for both levels to be cleared together.

Where should my downspouts empty in Toronto?

Well clear of the foundation, and further out than a standard splash pad across most of the old city, because downspouts here were taken off the sewer by City requirement and that water now has to be moved away above ground. A long extension onto grass or a bed beats a pad against the wall.

Are gutter guards worth fitting on an old-city street?

Under a full maple canopy a guard keeps the trough usable, but keys, seed and grit still build up on top of the mesh and fine needles pass straight through it. Treat a guard as the thing that turns two clears a season into one clear and one check, not as the end of the job.

There is nowhere to stand beside my semi. What happens then?

The crew works from the front and the back and reaches into the side run from both ends, which covers most semi-detached houses. If the middle of that run is genuinely out of reach, the honest answer is that it stays uncleared unless somebody goes onto the roof, and that is a different job.
