About the role

Taskly is hiring a DevOps Engineer (you may know the role as Site Reliability Engineer, Platform Engineer or Cloud Engineer) to keep the product up when a poster is mid-booking and a Tasker is at the door. The app runs on Railway with Supabase Postgres underneath, and it serves people in Canada and India who pay in different ways. A failed deploy or a missed scheduled job is felt by a real person within minutes.

You will work with the founder and the engineers, and you will be the person who knows what happens when something fails at 2 a.m. in one time zone and noon in another. In six months, deploys should be boring, alerts should mean something, and the monthly infrastructure bill should be a number you can explain.

What you’ll do

  • Own deployment on Railway: Docker builds, environments, secrets, rollbacks and zero-surprise releases from GitHub Actions. Make a rollback a one-minute action that anyone on the team can run.
  • Make CI fast and trustworthy, running typecheck, Vitest, lint and migration checks on every push without flaky failures. A red build should always mean a real problem.
  • Set up observability: structured logs, metrics, tracing and alerts that point to the failing step in the payment, offer or messaging path. Page someone only when a user would notice.
  • Run Postgres operations: backups and restore drills, connection limits, slow-query review, migration safety and read-only access for analysts. Practice restoring before you need to.
  • Harden the edge: security headers, CSP, webhook signature checks, and rate limiting that works across more than one running instance. Document what each header and limit protects.
  • Monitor scheduled jobs, such as releasing payments in Canada, so a missed run raises an alert instead of being found by a user.
  • Track infrastructure and third-party cost, and propose savings before they become urgent.

What you’ll need

  • 4+ years in DevOps, SRE, platform or cloud engineering, running a production web application. You have been on call and know what a good alert looks like.
  • Strong Docker and CI/CD experience, ideally with GitHub Actions. You have made a slow pipeline fast.
  • Hands-on PostgreSQL operations: backups, restores, replication, indexing and query performance.
  • Experience with logging, metrics and alerting using tools such as Grafana, Datadog, Sentry or OpenTelemetry.
  • Web security basics in practice: TLS, security headers, secrets management, rate limiting and least-privilege access.
  • You write runbooks and post-incident notes that another engineer can follow at night.

Education: A degree in computer science is welcome but not required; systems you have kept running matter more.

Nice to have

  • Railway, Fly.io, Render or a similar platform, and a view on when to move to Kubernetes or AWS.
  • Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code, and a cloud bill you actually read.
  • Experience with Cloudflare or another CDN and WAF.
  • Experience at a marketplace (Airbnb, Uber, Urban Company, Swiggy, Airtasker, TaskRabbit, Upwork) or another two-sided product.

About Taskly

Taskly is a marketplace for getting anything done. Someone posts a task in their own words — typed, spoken or as a photo — and people who have been reviewed and approved send offers at a firm price. They pick one, and it gets done: a TV mounted, a website built, a parent taught to use their phone. We’re live in Canada and India and opening to more countries, built by a small team that works remotely across India, the US, Canada and the UAE.
