About the role

Taskly is hiring a Backend Developer (you may know the role as Backend Engineer, Node.js Developer or SDE-2) to own the parts nobody sees and everybody depends on. When a poster picks an offer, a lot must happen once and only once: payment is taken, the Tasker is told, and the two of them can message. If any step happens twice, or not at all, someone’s Sunday is ruined.

You will work on the server side of a TypeScript codebase: Supabase Postgres with Row Level Security, route handlers, Stripe Connect webhooks and scheduled jobs. You report to the founder, and the team is remote with a shared two-hour window each weekday. Within six months, you should own one money flow end to end, including what happens when it fails.

What you’ll do

  • Own the money path: payments, Stripe Connect webhooks, refunds and Tasker payouts, with tests for retries and out-of-order events. Every payment event should be safe to receive twice.
  • Design Postgres schemas, indexes and migrations, and write Row Level Security policies that keep each person to their own data.
  • Build and maintain the APIs the web app depends on, with clear errors, input validation and sensible rate limits. Document each endpoint so a frontend developer does not need to ask.
  • Keep each market’s rules in code: in Canada the poster’s payment is held by Taskly until the task is done, and in India payment goes directly.
  • Build scheduled work such as reminders, releasing payments in Canada once a task is complete, and clean-up jobs that are safe to run twice.
  • Run Supabase Realtime for messages, offers and arrival updates, and find out why one went missing when a report comes in.
  • Write design notes the founder can read and decide from, and review teammates’ code for failure cases as well as style.

What you’ll need

  • 3+ years building and running backend systems in production, in TypeScript and Node.js, Go, Python or a similar language.
  • Deep SQL and PostgreSQL: you can read a query plan and write a migration that runs safely on live data.
  • You have built a payments or marketplace integration and designed for retries, duplicates and webhooks that arrive late.
  • Experience with authentication, authorization and row-level access control.
  • Tests for the paths where money or trust moves, and not only the happy ones.
  • You can say what went wrong and how to prevent it in a short, clear post-incident note.

Education: A degree in computer science is welcome but not required; backend systems you have run in production matter more.

Nice to have

  • Stripe Connect, or another marketplace payments setup.
  • Supabase, Row Level Security and Realtime in production.
  • Tax or multi-currency logic, such as HST in Canada or payments in India.
  • Experience at a marketplace (Airbnb, Uber, Urban Company, Swiggy, Airtasker, TaskRabbit, Upwork) or another two-sided product.

About Taskly

Taskly is a marketplace for getting anything done. Someone posts a task in their own words — typed, spoken or as a photo — and people who have been reviewed and approved send offers at a firm price. They pick one, and it gets done: a TV mounted, a website built, a parent taught to use their phone. We’re live in Canada and India and opening to more countries, built by a small team that works remotely across India, the US, Canada and the UAE.

Questions about this role

Straight answers to what people ask most.

Is the Backend Developer role remote?

Yes, fully remote. You can work from India, the United States, Canada or the United Arab Emirates, and the team overlaps for two hours each weekday: 8:30–10:30 am Eastern · afternoon in Dubai, evening in India.

How much experience do I need?

About 3–7 years. It’s a guide, not a cut-off: if you can do the work described here, apply.

What does the Backend Developer role pay?

Pay isn’t listed here yet. It depends on the country you work from and your experience, and it’s discussed openly in your first conversation.

How do I apply?
