About the role
Taskly is hiring a Data Engineer (you may also see the job called Data Platform Engineer or ETL Developer) to get the right data out of Supabase Postgres and the product, and into a place everyone trusts. Tasks, offers, messages, bookings and payouts all carry answers the team needs. They also live in two countries that handle payments differently, which makes the data easy to misread.
You will work with the founder and the engineers who add tracking to the product. In six months, we want pipelines that load on a schedule you can state, checks that fail loudly when data goes stale, and a warehouse bill that you can predict. The team is remote, so your runbooks should make sense to someone reading them at the start of their day.
What you’ll do
- Build pipelines from Supabase Postgres to a cloud warehouse such as BigQuery, Snowflake or ClickHouse, and recommend which one fits a small team and its budget.
- Set up incremental loads or change data capture for tasks, offers, bookings and payouts, so history is kept and nothing is loaded twice. Handle late and updated rows, such as a booking whose status changes days after it was created.
- Design event tracking for posting a task, comparing offers and Tasker onboarding, and agree the event names with the engineers who add them.
- Write the raw and staging layers in dbt, so analysts and analytics engineers start from clean, documented tables.
- Keep personal data safe with masking, access controls and retention rules, handling Canada and India on purpose rather than by accident.
- Monitor every pipeline with freshness checks, row-count checks and schema-change alerts, and write the runbook for when one breaks.
- Watch storage and compute spend, and tell us the monthly cost before it surprises anyone. Choose the cheapest setup that still answers the questions we ask.
What you’ll need
- 3+ years building and running data pipelines in production, not only prototypes. You can describe one that broke and what you changed afterwards.
- Strong SQL and Python, and a working understanding of PostgreSQL, including logical replication or other ways of reading changes.
- Hands-on experience with a cloud warehouse (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift or ClickHouse) and with dbt.
- Experience with an orchestrator such as Airflow, Dagster or Prefect, or with scheduled jobs that you monitor properly.
- You test data: row counts, uniqueness, freshness and null checks that run on every load and block bad data.
- You have worked with personal data under access controls and know why it matters.
Education: A degree in computer science or a related field is welcome but not required; pipelines you have run in production matter more.
Nice to have
- Airbyte, Fivetran or Debezium for moving data, and Segment, RudderStack or PostHog for events.
- Experience at a marketplace (Airbnb, Uber, Urban Company, Swiggy, Airtasker, TaskRabbit, Upwork) or another two-sided product.
- Docker and infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform, to make the data stack repeatable.
- Supabase experience, including Row Level Security and Realtime.

About Taskly
Taskly is a marketplace for getting anything done. Someone posts a task in their own words — typed, spoken or as a photo — and people who have been reviewed and approved send offers at a firm price. They pick one, and it gets done: a TV mounted, a website built, a parent taught to use their phone. We’re live in Canada and India and opening to more countries, built by a small team that works remotely across India, the US, Canada and the UAE.
