About the role
Taskly is hiring an Analytics Engineer (also called a dbt Developer or BI Engineer) to make every number in the company mean one thing. When is a task “posted”, “hired” or “completed”? What counts as a response time? Without one written definition, the answer changes with who asks and which query they write. Fixing that is quiet work with a large effect, because every dashboard, experiment and weekly note sits on top of it.
You will work with the founder, the engineers and whoever builds the pipelines. In six months, we want a tested dbt project, one written definition for each core marketplace metric, and dashboards where two people looking at the same chart read the same number. The team is small and remote, so a definition you write down will be used by everyone.
What you’ll do
- Write dbt models that turn raw Postgres and event data into clean tables for tasks, offers, hires, completions, disputes and payouts.
- Define each marketplace metric once, in code and in a short written definition: time to first offer, offer rate, hire rate, completion rate and repeat posters.
- Build the metrics layer, whether in dbt, Cube or Metabase models, so dashboards and the founder pull from the same place.
- Add dbt tests and documentation, so a broken definition fails a check rather than surfacing in a meeting. Treat every metric definition like code: reviewed, versioned and tested.
- Model the country differences correctly: CAD and INR, HST, and the fact that in Canada the poster’s payment is held by Taskly until the task is done, while in India it goes directly.
- Review analysts’ SQL and move the queries people keep repeating into shared, documented models.
- Agree with engineers how product events map to the definitions, so a tracking change does not quietly break a metric.
What you’ll need
- 2+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering or BI, with dbt used in production. You can show a project, a model or a test suite you wrote.
- Expert SQL, including window functions, incremental models and query performance tuning.
- Solid dimensional modeling: staging, intermediate and mart layers, and how to keep history when a record changes.
- Git, code review and CI for data, using dbt Cloud or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with a BI tool such as Metabase, Looker, Lightdash or Power BI.
- You write metric definitions in plain language that a non-technical colleague can read and approve.
Education: A degree in any quantitative field is welcome but not required; dbt projects you have built and can show matter more.
Nice to have
- Marketplace metrics experience: GMV, take rate, liquidity and repeat rate. You know why GMV alone can mislead.
- Python for data tests and small scripts that keep a dbt project honest.
- Experience at a marketplace (Airbnb, Uber, Urban Company, Swiggy, Airtasker, TaskRabbit, Upwork) or another two-sided product.
- Experiment analysis, including how to model assignment and exposure in the warehouse.

About Taskly
Taskly is a marketplace for getting anything done. Someone posts a task in their own words — typed, spoken or as a photo — and people who have been reviewed and approved send offers at a firm price. They pick one, and it gets done: a TV mounted, a website built, a parent taught to use their phone. We’re live in Canada and India and opening to more countries, built by a small team that works remotely across India, the US, Canada and the UAE.
