About the role

As Taskly’s Video Editor (you may know the role as Reels Editor or Short-Form Video Editor), you cut the videos that show people what Taskly does: a task posted by voice, a Tasker finishing a job, an offer arriving. The work goes to Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and LinkedIn, plus longer explainers on YouTube. Tasks range from mounting a TV to teaching a parent to use their phone, so there is never a shortage of real stories to cut.

You’ll work with the social media manager, the content marketing manager and the founder, turning raw footage, screen recordings and scripts into finished cuts on a regular schedule. In six months you should have a repeatable format, a template library, and a clear view of which hooks hold viewers past the first three seconds in India and in Canada.

What you’ll do

  • Edit short vertical videos of 15 to 60 seconds for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and LinkedIn from raw footage, screen recordings and scripts. Keep the story clear with the sound off.
  • Write and test hooks for the first three seconds, and report retention at 3 and 15 seconds for every video. Keep what holds viewers and drop what does not.
  • Add accurate, readable burned-in captions and check them for errors before anything is posted. Captions carry most of the message for viewers watching on mute.
  • Build reusable templates in Premiere Pro, After Effects and CapCut, such as price cards, intros and end screens that match Taskly’s look. Anyone on the team should be able to reuse them.
  • Cut longer YouTube explainers, including walkthroughs of posting a task and comparing offers. Cut them to the length the story needs.
  • Clean the audio, balance voice and music, and add sound effects where they help.
  • Prepare versions for Canada and India audiences, with different on-screen text, examples and music, and export to 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9.

What you’ll need

  • 1–4 years editing short-form video, shown in a reel of at least five finished pieces with the platform and length of each.
  • Proficiency in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, and working knowledge of After Effects and CapCut.
  • A sharp sense of pacing, cuts, captions and sound, backed by examples where your edit raised watch time.
  • The ability to turn a brief into a first cut within a working day.
  • Careful English: you read a script closely and catch typos in on-screen text.
  • Comfort receiving feedback in writing and turning a revision round around within a day.

Education: No degree is required; your reel is the application.

Nice to have

  • Motion graphics and kinetic typography in After Effects.
  • Experience editing product demos and screen recordings for an app or marketplace (Airbnb, Uber, Urban Company, Swiggy, Airtasker, TaskRabbit, Upwork).
  • Basic color grading and shooting your own footage on a phone.
  • Experience with caption tools such as CapCut auto-captions, Descript or Submagic, and the habit of proofreading their output.

About Taskly

Taskly is a marketplace for getting anything done. Someone posts a task in their own words — typed, spoken or as a photo — and people who have been reviewed and approved send offers at a firm price. They pick one, and it gets done: a TV mounted, a website built, a parent taught to use their phone. We’re live in Canada and India and opening to more countries, built by a small team that works remotely across India, the US, Canada and the UAE.
