About the role
A Legal and Compliance Associate at Taskly (also called Compliance Analyst, Legal Associate or Regulatory Compliance Specialist) helps a multi-country marketplace stay on the right side of the rules while it keeps shipping. You support outside counsel on the terms people accept and the privacy promises Taskly makes. You also cover the payments and consumer-protection rules in Canada, India and the UAE.
You would work with the founder, trust and safety, finance and engineering, and you would turn legal questions into answers the team can use in a day. Six months in, success looks like current terms and a plain-language privacy policy, plus a register of obligations by country. It also looks like a short list of open questions with outside counsel, each with a date.
What you’ll do
- Keep the terms of service, privacy policy and Tasker agreement accurate as the product changes. Draft updates for outside counsel to review.
- Map privacy obligations under PIPEDA in Canada, India’s DPDP Act and the UAE PDPL: what Taskly collects (identity checks, photos, voice, messages), why, and where it lives.
- Handle requests to access, correct or delete personal data, and track the deadlines. Keep a log that shows what was asked and when you answered.
- Work with finance on payments compliance. Cover how money moves in Canada, where Taskly holds payment until the task is done, and in India, where it goes directly.
- Track consumer-protection rules on pricing, refunds, cancellations and reviews. Check product and marketing copy so Taskly never promises more than it delivers.
- Prepare the facts and questions for contractor-classification issues, for Taskers and for Taskly’s own team in each country.
- Keep a register of contracts, vendors and data processors, with owners and renewal dates.
What you’ll need
- 2+ years in legal, compliance or privacy work for a technology, marketplace, fintech or payments company, or at a law firm advising them.
- Working knowledge of at least two of PIPEDA, India’s DPDP Act, the UAE PDPL and GDPR, plus consumer-protection or e-commerce rules.
- Experience drafting and reviewing terms, privacy policies and commercial contracts in plain language.
- Judgment about what you can resolve yourself and what needs outside counsel, and the habit of writing precise questions.
- The ability to explain a legal risk to an engineer or a founder in a few lines, with a recommendation.
Education: A law degree (LLB, LLM or JD) is the usual route, and compliance qualifications and relevant experience count too. You support outside counsel; you do not replace them.
Nice to have
- A privacy certification such as CIPP/C or CIPP/E, or qualification to practice in Canada, India or the UAE.
- Familiarity with payments rules such as PCI DSS basics, KYC and AML, or marketplace payout regulations.
- Experience at a marketplace (Airbnb, Uber, Urban Company, Swiggy, Airtasker, TaskRabbit, Upwork) or another two-sided product.
- Experience answering a regulator, a privacy request or a payment-partner questionnaire.

About Taskly
Taskly is a marketplace for getting anything done. Someone posts a task in their own words — typed, spoken or as a photo — and people who have been reviewed and approved send offers at a firm price. They pick one, and it gets done: a TV mounted, a website built, a parent taught to use their phone. We’re live in Canada and India and opening to more countries, built by a small team that works remotely across India, the US, Canada and the UAE.
